"Yes I know the f*&%ing door is open!"

"Hey wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?" Jim Carey, Dumb and Dumber.
The factory door buzzer serves very little purpose, but causes a very major headache.
What this buzzer is intended to do is remind a person as they open the door to leave that
their keys are still in the ignition. But what it does is just annoy the piss out of you.
Here is the cheapest way to kill that damn buzzer easily. It will require 2 flat head
screw drivers, and about 2-3" of electrical tape. The only downside to this is there is no
longer a headlight reminder, but seeing as how Bumpass and I never had
one, that worked anyway, there is no problem....
To remove the buzzer housing from this 87 PU (it's the same on my 85 4runner) you first
gotta find it.

This is the best "map" I can give you, worst comes to worst just turn on the buzzer
and feel for vibration. Once you locate the buzzer slide it off and disconnect the
wiring.

Here's the buzzer housing hanging uselessly.
Some people simply yank this box out, I tried this but the "door" option didn't work
on the dome light when the driver's door was open, at first I didn't care but then
it got dark...also for some reason the "fasten seat belt" dash light didn't work,
damn it I like my dash lights lit! So I needed a better way to kill that damn sound.

So I pulled the housing apart, and reconnected it to the wiring, I discovered that
the buzzer is quite easy to silence, all I had to do was not allow the coil to move.
To remove the plastic housing cover you need to pry the clips off on
both sides, it takes a little patience (which I have little of). The worst thing you
can do is crack it, but that isn't the end of the world (plastic covers suck anyway).

So I placed some electrical tape around the buzzer coil so it won't move, be sure to get
the tape between the two pieces of metal that vibrate. You don't gotta make it look
pretty, unless you are that much of a perfectionist. I hooked it back up and
everything works, except no damn noise!
