Schaffer's 70 Baja Bug

Project Intro:
My parents bought me a brand new '97 Ford Ranger 4x4, that I "accidentally" took off-road, they didn't like the fact that I took a $26,000 truck off pavement (but hey isn't that what it's for). So they opted to get me something cheap that I could beat on and f**k up. I always liked well built bugs and I had a "crazy" idea of building my own.

Engine and Drivetrain:
Rebuilt 1600 cc motor from Sir

Cooling:
Stock

Suspension and Steering:
Stock, with $9.99 Kragen special shocks

Wheels and Tires:
Wilderness AT's in the rear Straight off my mom's explorer (exploder?) Deadly on the ford, great on the bug

Electronics:
Uniden CB Radio
Kragen Special tape player

Lighting:
"Wal-Mart Special" blazer off-road lights
"Wal-Mart Special" Fog lights

Exterior:
Custom rattle can blue paint job Straight off the shelf from Home Depot
Custom made front bumper

Interior:
Custom Schaffer carpeting and upholstery
Empi shifter and steering wheel

Misc:
Custom Hornet's nest under the hood

Best Mod:
Selling it

Best Break:
1. Wheel falling off
2. Valve cover falling off both in the Proving Grounds
3. Caught on fire, twice
4. Hood latch failing and sending the hood into the windshield, obstructing my vision.
5. Throttle sticking wide open...a couple times
6. Sheered all the bolts on one of the drive shafts
7. Busted the door latch, had to go in dukes of hazard style
8. Muffler fell off, on road and off

Worst Mod:
Buying the car...anything else would be an improvement

Legal Violations:
I think the entire vehicle wasn't safe for on or off road use...

Project Outro:
I realized not only did I buy a huge roach, but it would take far too much time, money and effort to make it decent and it would still be two wheel drive. Words can not describe how poor of a decision it was to buy this car....
