Project Intro: At the time my daily driver was my Ford Ranger and my OHV was the bug. However, the Bug wasn't working as a OHV or just a V...and my Dad wanted to use the Ford as his daily driver. Thus I was in the market for a truck, I wanted reliable transportation and a weekend warrior. I have always liked the look of the 84-88 body style (as seen in Back To The Future-key selling point) and the legendary dependability and ruggedness of Toyotas. I stumbled over this beautiful 87 that I got a great price, because the previous owner thought the engine was dying but it only needed a new main seal. Ivan was a great truck but I never had the cash flow to make him what I wanted... hard to imagine because I was working at Sportmart. Engine and Drivetrain: 4 cylinder 22r Stock 5 speed tranny Cooling: 3-Core radiator Kragen Stock one took a dump in the desert after only 13 years and 170k Suspension and Steering: Tweeked tortion bars Poor man's lift Wheels and Tires: 15x8 Aluminum Rims 31x10.5 General Mud Terrains Electronics: Uniden CB Radio Firestick antenna Sony CD player and Eclipse Speakers Lighting: "Wal-Mart Special" Fog lights Exterior: Bashed both rear fender wells 15"x10" wheels don't "tuck" like 15"x8" Removed mud flaps...not by choice Removed lower valance Dual tow hooks Interior: Empi steering wheel Custom (Kragen) cup holder Poor man's special Toyota seats complete with comfort bar Misc: Custom ripped frame...not a towing location apparently Best Mod: Replacing 15x10's with 15x8's Cup holder Best Break: OE alternator catching on fire While on road, I unlodaded an entire fire extinguisher on it, did anybody stop? Nooooo! Worst Mod: General Tires, 2 ply sidewalls-just like T.P. Quotable Quotes: "Those aren't flys, they're little spaceships..." Project Outro: Apparently some butt-holes liked my cd player too, and wanted to take it, however it was attached to the truck. I awoke to that sinking feeling of not having a toy.... The police found Ivan 3 months later, across the street from where I worked at the time. This was four days after my dad cashed the check from the insurance company. But Ivan will live again in Ivan II: second cousin of Ivan Stewart. Back to Rides
